Social Development

Mobicom's Social Developement Philosophy

We believe that creating sustainable wellbeing for any person requires more than giving the person a job or money, though this is important. Our aim from a developmental perspective is not to change people’s lifestyles if it is not their choice to do so. Our aim is to work with the people of all different ethnic, political and spiritual backgrounds, establish their needs and desires and to work with them where we can help them develop the skills they need in order to develop their lives in the directions they wish to take them. All in all our long term goal is to, as far as we are able to, provide the support necessary to develop the inherent strength that is already within the people of the community. However, it has become apparent to us that there are various core issues in poverty stricken communities in general that can be addressed. Some of these issues include: general low self-esteem in the average population; general hopelessness; general exhaustion; alcoholism; drug abuse; HIV; child & woman abuse; underlying anger and resentment and despair; lack of education; lack of skills development; overworked social workers. There are local people in the communities who are already working on these aspects voluntarily, we also wish to support and celebrate these individuals through very structured and innovative interventions.
